
AN EFFECTIVE, DYNAMIC FAMILY-FOCUSED
PREVENTION PROGRAM FOR FAMILIES WITH
CHILDREN AGES 6 – 10 YEARS OLD
WHO: Parents or caregivers and their children – ages 6-10 years old
WHAT: A 14 week program including the following:
Problem Solving
Communication Skills
Parenting Skills
Discipline Techniques

The STRENGTHENING FAMILIES PROGRAM (SFP) is designed to reduce environmental risk factors and improve protective factors with the ultimate objective of increasing personal resiliency to drug use in high risk youth.
¨ SFP helps parents build on their strengths in showing love and setting limits.
¨ SFP helps youth develop skills in handling peer pressure and building a positive future.
¨ SFP decreases chaos and stress in the family by learning new coping techniques.
¨ SFP gives support to help families grow together.
¨ SFP decreases unhealthy behaviors in the family.
The STRENGTHENING FAMILIES PROGRAM also offers support with Academic, Social and Life Skills Development and promotes Self Confidence and Moral Development. This often results in the following:
Reduced Family Conflict
Increased Family Organization and Cohesion
Decreased Parent and Child Depression and Conduct Disorder
Increased School Success
Reduced Parent Alcohol and Drug Use
The STRENGTHENING FAMILIES PROGRAM
consists of 14 TWO HOUR SESSIONS
Each week starts with a family style meal. This is followed by a one hour session for parents and a one hour session for children. These two sessions, conducted by trained facilitators, run simultaneously. These sessions are followed by a one hour session for the family members together.
